Why Participate

Why Participate in Focus Groups?

You've been asked to register on this website for the opportunity to participate in a focus group as part of a research study conducted by 20/20 Research, Inc. What is a focus group, why should you participate and who is 20/20 Research? Fair questions. The following answers should help...

What is a Focus Group?

A focus group is essentially an interactive and lively round-table discussion. They are generally conducted with a group of 8-10 people who have similar interests (e.g. all dog owners or all ER nurses, etc.). A leader, called a 'moderator' directs the discussion to explore a variety of issues related to the topic being researched. Focus groups are usually held at special facilities that are specially designed to accommodate the unique requirements of marketing research.

Why Participate? #1: They're fun!

How many times have you wished a big company had asked for your opinion before they launched a new product or ad campaign? Well, here's your chance to give it -- along with others who feel the same way. Imagine a room full of energetic, articulate people, gathered to talk about a single subject - one that everyone in the room is interested in in. The conversations are lively, engaging, and most of all, enjoyable.

The following are typical of the kinds of studies conducted in our facilities everyday:

  • A baked bean taste test for a major food company
  • A discussion of the logo for a professional sports league by sports enthusiasts
  • A review of new room layouts by business travelers for a major hotel chain
  • A feedback study on geography textbooks by teachers for a major publisher
  • A study on new insurance products by seniors for a major insurance company
  • An in-home study on tea brewing for a major food company
  • A review of bottle labels by beer drinkers for a major brewery
  • A discussion on the floorplan of a hospital wing by nurses for a major medical center
  • A mock courtroom trial for a major law firm
  • A study to come up with a name for a new wine for a major vineyard

Why Participate? #2: Your opinion matters.

The companies we work with spend billions of dollars each year to understand what customers want and need when it comes to their products. They really do listen to what customers, like you, have to say. Your feedback is critical because it could spell the difference between success and failure of that particular product line. During focus groups, don't be afraid to speak your mind... everything you say is kept confidential.

Some of the great companies we work with include:
  • Kraft
  • Pfizer
  • Time Magazine
  • Hewlett-Packard
  • National Football League
  • Coca Cola
  • Proctor & Gamble
  • UPS
  • BellSouth
  • Anheuser Busch
  • Shell Oil
  • Merck
  • And hundreds of others

Why Participate? #3: Best of all, you're paid for your time!

Believe it or not - just for spending a little time with one of these companies (generally less than 2 hours) - you'll be paid. Right then and there as you exit the study. The amount will vary depending on the type of study, location, duration, etc., but most studies pay from $60-100, up to $200 for mock jury trials and up to $300 for professional or business studies.

Please understand that this is real research conducted by some of the top companies in the country. No selling of any kind is ever allowed..
